THE ENVIRONMENT
Help pave the way for a CLEANER Port Huron
This particular issue has been increasingly gaining coverage all over the state. Why exactly? It is an issue that needs to be addressed, and heavily discussed among politicians, lobbyists, and congressmen alike. Tray Smith is pushing for change, and is doing everything he can to see a brighter, better, and more thriving future for the citizens who breathe the air that Port Huron sets off.
Economic development is an issue that is no more important to Tray than the other issues, as all are considered high priority. Coming from and residing in larger cities prior to transplanting in this quaint family-friendly town of Port Huron, Tray has a broader view of this common issue. Tray is known for answering to any given question about these issues, "It is both/and..." as he proceeds to give multiple possibilities of handling the specific situation at hand. On any issue related to communities, one must become educated not only to what is the issue, but it is important that one understands the circumstances that are connected to these issues.
While issues and challenges can be complex, there are always similarities that can be found leading to potential areas that also need to be addressed. For example, a child who does is failing in class may be dealing with abuse and lack of food and nutrition in the home. So if we simply improve the education system but don't address abuse or lack of food and other resources, that particular child and other children residing in similar environments will continue to fail.
Then there is the issue of addressing food desserts which have been identified in a few communities within Port Huron. If there is no convenience of obtaining food, then it there is another barrier, even if a family that qualifies to receive food stamps but does not have the accessibility of transportation to go outside of their community to purchase appropriate food.
In the end, has the mother and/or father been educated sufficiently to receive sustainable employment, to stop the chain of abuse, to become drug-free, and we could go on and on? I think you get the point of "both/and".
Back to the issue of economic development which is related to communities located in what is known as food desserts as well as other limited resources that could be resolved with business development. The "both/and" concept would encourage major franchises to come into the area. Not just any franchise retailer or food chain, but one that is diverse in its offerings and family-oriented. Many are aware that this is the heart of the mission of Tray's, initially a for-profit, now a nonprofit organization, Experience the Mission. That is why Tray is definitely the best candidate for the initiative of Economic Development.
