Help pave the way for BETTER schools

EDUCATION

You will hear Tray often say that many of the existing solutions of most issues in Port Huron, MI is that they are no longer relevant to the people in which the issues affect. When it comes to Education Reform, relevance again is the issue especially in regards to the overall education system for our youth. One may challenge Tray and ask, why would he be best qualified to assist in reforming the system?

Although Tray is known for his wisdom that is often compared to someone far greater in the number of years, his age is classified as Millennial, bordering the Generation X age group. He is known for his "unorthodox" ways or some may refer to it as thinking "outside of the box", but either way it is his passion for finding resolutions on the issues related to humanity.

Through focus groups and strategic planning, Tray is resolved to being a part of an effective educational reform project. In other words, making it relevant and one that works for our youth and young adults to be able to live and work even beyond Port Huron Michigan...globally.

Tray Smith is truly passionate about this issue, as it is one that impacts so many people all over the state and even in our own city. He hold's this issue close to his heart, working day in and day out to find ways to improve our failing education system which believes to just meet the bare minimum for standardized testing instead of aiming to exceed the expectations for it. Our valedictorian a few years ago once said that the only thing she learned while attending our schools was how to "whip whip and nae nae." Under Tray Smiths leadership, you can be rest assured that he will push for changes and education reform within our education system and future students will be able to say they learned how to properly write an essay, know how to make a cover letter and resume, in addition to gaining experience through job training programs so they can get a job quickly and maintain one. These same students will brag about how well they did in school and how much they were challenged because when they wanted to give up, their teachers pushed them to the limits to succeed and exceed their goals. Our students will no longer be held to the accountability of "passing" grades, they will be held to the highest standard possible and will raise the bar for generations to come. Tray will pave the way for better schools here in our community.

As Mayor he aims to maintain balance within the political system, and will keep pushing until the correct balance is reached.
